General Counsel and Company Secretary at Dixons Carphone

Nigel Paterson is the current General Counsel and Company Secretary at Dixons Carphone. Prior to this, they worked at BT Group PLC from July 2000 to March 2015, where they were the manager of the Legal, Governance & Compliance team of lawyers and commercial contract managers supporting BT Consumer’s business, including broadband, fixed and mobile telephony, BT Sport, Vision TV and Wi-Fi, as well as the Regulatory Affairs team supporting two divisions, BT Consumer and BT Business. Nigel was also a member of the Consumer Leadership team (the division’s governing board), the BT Legal Leadership team, and the Group Disclosure Committee. For their work at BT, Nigel was recognized by The Lawyer in their ‘Hot 100’ list for 2014, and BT Sport won In-House TMT Team of the Year at The Lawyer Awards 2014 and In-House Team of the Year at the British Legal Awards 2013. Prior to their time at BT, Nigel worked as Legal Counsel at ExxonMobil International Limited from February 1998 to June 2000, and before that they were a Trainee then Solicitor in the Corporate Department at Linklaters from March 1993 to January 1998.

Nigel Paterson studied classics at Trinity College, University of Oxford. Nigel then pursued an MBA at The Open University Business School. Finally, they completed a LSF/CPW at The University of Law.
