Robert Sabal

Dean, School of the Arts

Robert Sabal is currently the Dean of the School of the Arts at Emerson College. Robert has held this position since January 2010. Prior to their current role, Sabal served as the President of the University Film and Video Association from January 2007 to December 2013. Robert was also a member of Filmmakers Collaborative from January 2006 to December 2008.


Sabal began their career as an Associate Professor at the University of Texas at Austin in January 1993. Robert then moved to the University of Arizona in August 1987, where they served as an Associate Professor until May 1997.


Robert Sabal has a Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) in Film/Video from Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Communication and Media Studies from Northwestern University.


They are on a team with Ruthanne Madsen - VP for Enrollment Management, Paul Dworkis - VP for Administration and Finance, and Amy Ansell - Dean of Liberal Arts. Their manager is William Gilligan, Interim President.
