CFO at English Heritage

Mark Stuart-Smith is the current CFO at English Heritage. Mark has previous experience as the Chief Operating Officer at Somerset House Trust, where they developed and implemented an ambitious strategic plan to deliver a financially sustainable arts and heritage charity. This included recovering the entire Somerset House site as public realm, conserving and refurbishing the buildings (funded by bank debt), accompanied by an expanding artistic and cultural programme and with annual visitor numbers increasing to 3.5 million, and supported by growing profitable commercial revenue streams.

Before their time at Somerset House Trust, Stuart-Smith served as the Chief Financial Officer for a private investment fund from 2007 to 2009. In this position, they worked with the Bank of Scotland to workout distressed investment funds and advised portfolio company boards on restructuring and strategic options. From 2001 to 2007, they were the Group Finance Director for a private family-owned trading group.

Stuart-Smith began their career in 1994 as an Assistant Director for Postern Advisory Ltd. Mark held this position until 2001 when they left to pursue other opportunities.

Mark Stuart-Smith has an Investment Management Certificate from the ICAEW and a BA in Mark'story from the University of Bristol. Mark also has a certificate in investment management from the Institute of Investment Management and Research.

They are on a team with Louise Dando - Marketing Director, Sue Fisher - Development Director, and Kate Logan - Mark'storic Properties Director. Mark Stuart-Smith reports to Kate Mavor, CEO.
