John Murphy

John Murphy is the current Non-Executive Director at Enviropacific Services Pty Limited. Prior to that, they served as the Deputy Secretary for the Australian Government Department of Human Services from February 2016 to February 2020. In that role, they were responsible for leading the Department of Human Services, Welfare Payments Infrastructure Transformation program. This included designing and implementing the business model for welfare payments in Australia, as well as developing a new information and communications technology (ICT) system.

Before their time with the Australian government, John Murphy worked for the National Australia Bank from June 2009 to February 2016. There, they served as the Executive General Manager for Deposits & Transaction Services. In that role, they led a team of 360 product professionals who were responsible for NAB's deposits, consumer and business transaction accounts, card acceptance (merchant acquiring), corporate and commercial cards, and transaction products. John was also responsible for NAB Trade, which provides a market-leading online share trading service.

In addition to their work with Deposits & Transaction Services, John Murphy also had executive responsibility for the NAB Group's Payments strategy. John was a member of the Australian Payments Council, which coordinates industry efforts to drive the strategic agenda for the Australian payments system in concert with the Reserve Bank of Australia.
