We are on a journey to make air travel more sustainable and accessible, and we're looking for a Chief Financial Officer to lead our efforts in this exciting and challenging endeavor.

Job Summary

The CFO will be responsible for leading the company’s financial strategy with a strong focus on securing investor and government funding. In addition, the CFO will oversee essential finance functions, including financial reporting, treasury management, and internal controls, to ensure operational efficiency and compliance. This outward-facing role involves building relationships with potential investors, stakeholders, and government entities to ensure sufficient capital for growth initiatives. Additionally, the CFO will oversee the FP&A function, ensuring the company’s financial operations align with its strategic goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Funding Strategy & Execution:

  • Develop and execute strategies for securing equity and debt financing from investors.
  • Pursue government funding opportunities, including grants, subsidies, and tax incentives, while ensuring compliance with requirements.
  • Maintain relationships with existing investors, lenders, and other financial partners.
  • Serve as a primary contact for potential investors, providing information, presentations, and insights into the company’s financial performance and growth strategy.
  • Ensure an optimal capital structure that balances equity, debt, and government funding to support sustainable growth.

Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A):

  • Oversee the budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling processes to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, providing actionable recommendations.
  • Ensure robust financial reporting in compliance with GAAP/IFRS standards, and analysis to support business decision-making.
  • Develop KPIs and financial metrics to track performance across the organization, supporting decision-making at the executive level.
  • Direct month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial statements for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage cash flow, ensuring sufficient liquidity for operational needs and growth initiatives.
  • Oversee external audits and ensure audit-readiness to support company growth and any future public offering or transaction events.

Treasury & Cash Management:

  • Oversee treasury functions, including cash management, banking relationships, and capital allocation to optimize the company’s financial resources.
  • Develop and implement strategies for cash management and liquidity forecasting, with a focus on capital efficiency and risk management.
  • Evaluate and manage the company’s exposure to currency, interest rate, and other financial risks

Strategic Leadership:

  • Work closely with the executive team to develop and implement growth strategies and business plans.
  • Provide financial insights and guidance to support company expansion, mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and executive leadership to implement scalable systems and processes that align with the company’s growth objectives.
  • Lead financial due diligence and support negotiations for any strategic partnerships or transactions.
  • Support the CEO in preparing the organization for future exit opportunities, including public listing readiness, M&A, or private equity partnerships.

Governance & Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards, both domestic and international.

  • Oversee internal controls and financial risk management to safeguard company assets.

  • Collaborate with external auditors, legal advisors, and regulatory bodies as needed.

Qualifications:

  • MBA or relevant advanced degree preferred.
  • CPA, CFA, or similar professional certification is a plus.
  • 10+ years of experience in a senior financial role, with a focus on investor relations and funding.
  • Proven track record of securing investor and government funding.
  • Experience overseeing FP&A and financial reporting functions.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience in the [industry] or a similar sector is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with compliance requirements for government funding.
