Henna Virkkunen serves as the Executive Vice President for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy at the European Commission since December 2024. Previously, Virkkunen held the position of Chair at Kirittäret from January 2020 to November 2024 and was a Member of the European Parliament from July 2014 to November 2024, representing the center-right European People's Party and serving on multiple committees, including Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) and Transport and Tourism (TRAN). From December 2008 to June 2014, Virkkunen held various ministerial roles in the Finnish Government, including Minister of Transport and Local Government, Minister of Public Administration and Local Government, and Minister of Education. Additionally, Virkkunen was Vice Chair of Kokoomus from January 2008 to January 2014. Academic qualifications include a Licentiate degree in Philosophy and a Master of Arts in Journalism from the University of Jyväskylä.
