Marcy Kneale

Interim Assistant Superintendent, Department of Strategy, Planning and Learning at Fairfax County Public Schools

Marcy Kneale was named the Director of Operations for Fairfax County Public Schools in April of 2019. She began her career in FCPS in 2001 as a school counselor at Westfield High School. She then served on the inaugural staff of South County Secondary School before being selected as an administrative intern with the LEAD Fairfax program. In 2007, she was named the Director of Student Services for Fairfax High School where she led her team to national recognition, becoming one of the first schools in FCPS to earn the prestigious RAMP designation. Under her leadership, the school expanded academic, postsecondary, and mental health resources for students including student internship opportunities and universal depression screening.

In 2013, she was honored as the Virginia School Counseling Supervisor of the Year. As a central office program specialist, manager, and coordinator, she facilitated the division-wide implementation of national model practices for school counseling programs, expanded dual-enrollment opportunities for students, and engaged with community partners to increase information, resources, and programs for students and families. In 2014, she was named the director for the office of counseling, college and career readiness. She has served as an adjunct professor at Johns Hopkins University, the Virginia Region IV School Counseling Leader, and an advisor to the College Board. She has authored/co-authored a number of publications on leadership, postsecondary readiness, and collaborative teaming.

Kneale earned a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from James Madison University, a master’s of education in school counseling from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and completed her K-12 administration and supervision endorsement through the University of Virginia as a part of the FCPS LEAD Fairfax program.
