David C. Benson

President at Fannie Mae

David C. Benson is Fannie Mae’s President and reports to the Chief Executive Officer. He is responsible for the development and execution of the firm’s strategic plan, focused on driving organizational and financial performance, risk management, innovation, and attracting and retaining top talent. He leads the Single-Family and Multifamily businesses, including capital markets, pricing, underwriting, credit portfolio management, and operations. He is also responsible for several corporate functions, including finance, information technology, human resources, and communications. He also serves on the Board of Managers of Common Securitization Solutions, a Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac joint venture.

From May 2022 until December 2022, Mr. Benson concurrently served as Fannie Mae’s Interim CEO and President, and a member of our Board of Directors. Prior to being appointed as Fannie Mae’s President in 2018, Mr. Benson was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Previously, Mr. Benson served as Executive Vice President – Capital Markets, and Senior Vice President and Treasurer.

Before joining Fannie Mae in 2002, Mr. Benson was a Managing Director in the Fixed-Income Division of Merrill Lynch & Co. During his 14-year tenure he held leadership positions in risk management, fixed-income and currency trading, debt syndication, and e-commerce based in New York and London.

Mr. Benson earned his M.B.A from Stanford Business School, his M.D. from Harvard Medical School, and his B.S. in Psychobiology, summa cum laude, from the University of California, Los Angeles.
