Maya Wyche

Chief Talent Officer at FirstLine Schools

Maya Wyche graduated from Xavier University of Louisiana and then earned her Master of Public Health degree from Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Her public service career began with the Louisiana HIV/AIDS Program initially as the Perinatal HIV Prevention Coordinator and upon departure in 2004 as the Orleans Parish HIV Prevention/Community Planning Coordinator. She was serving at the community based level as the MAP Program Coordinator with the Institute of Women and Ethnic Studies at the time of Hurricane Katrina. She and her family relocated to the Dallas, Texas area post-Katrina, where she served as the Quality Assurance Advisor with the HIV Grants Division of Dallas County Health and Human Services. In 2007, she returned to New Orleans and briefly served at the community based level prior to joining AIDS United as their Southern REACH Program Officer. As Program Officer, she oversaw the $1.5M Ford Foundation funded HIV prevention, services, and advocacy initiative that funded 28 organizations across 8 states of the Southern US until the end of 2012. In early 2013, she became a certified vinyasa yoga instructor, NCCPT certified personal trainer, and swim instructor and in late 2013, Maya joined the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORD) as the Commission Secretary. Over the course of five years, she moved through the ranks to Management Services Director, then Chief Operating Officer, and finally concluded her tenure with NORD as the Interim Chief Executive Officer in late 2018. Her notable NORD accomplishments include re-organizing the recreation specific Civil Service classification structure and spearheading first-ever national CAPRA accreditation, which marked only the second accredited city in the State of Louisiana. Maya became FirstLine’s first Chief Talent Officer in May 2019 and she endeavors to employ her experiences and expertise in the provision of excellent public service to the youth and families of New Orleans. She is native to New Orleans and prides herself on being the mother of two amazing daughters.
