Yiyun Zhang

Director, Material Science at Footprint

Yiyun Zhang is a Chinese-American materials scientist and the current director of material science at Footprint. Yiyun was previously a technologist at Unisource Worldwide, Inc., where they characterized the mechanical, thermal, and chemical properties of sustainable materials. Yiyun also worked on product development and quality inspection for packaging products.

Zhang began their academic career as a teaching assistant at the University of Illinois at Chicago before becoming a research assistant at the Multiscale Mechanics and Nanotechnology Lab. In this role, they worked on nanomaterials research and assisted in the development of new nanomaterials for use in medical implants. Yiyun later became a research assistant at the National Key Laboratory of Bioelectronics in Southeast University, where they worked on electronics research.

Zhang has a bachelor's degree in materials science from Southeast University and a master's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Yiyun Zhang graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering from Southeast University. Yiyun then went on to earn their Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering from the same school. Finally, they earned their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois Chicago. Yiyun also has a certification in Six Sigma from Lean Six Sigma.

Yiyun Zhang reports to Michelle Phen-Giovanni, VP, Material Science.
