John Loughrey

John Loughrey is an experienced professional in the investment risk sector, currently serving as the Director of Investment Risk at Franklin Templeton since February 2021. Previously, John held the position of Chief Risk Officer at Legg Mason from January 2019 to February 2021, following a role as Chief Risk Officer and Head of Risk at UBS Ireland from October 2017 to December 2018. John’s career began in quantitative portfolio management at Gen Re from January 2007 to December 2009, and includes experience as a Fixed Income Portfolio Manager at New England Asset Management from January 2010 to September 2017. Earlier roles included Data-Mining Analyst at Idiro Technologies and a PhD student focusing on Artificial Intelligence at Trinity College Dublin, where a thesis was completed on Overfitting in wrapper-based search. John holds a PhD in Computer Science from Trinity College Dublin and a Bachelor of Science from Ulster University.
