Alan McDonald is a versatile freelance screenwriter and games writer, self-employed since 2011, with a keen focus on genres such as thriller, horror, coming-of-age, political drama, and sci-fi. As a Guest Lecturer at Glasgow Caledonian University since September 2023, Alan leads a module in the MA TV Fiction postgraduate course that emphasizes the creation of original ideas for television drama. Previously, Alan served as a Development Executive at Blazing Griffin from 2021 to 2025, overseeing the development of TV and film projects while collaborating with various industry stakeholders. Notable past projects include the CBBC game show-kids drama hybrid "Last Commanders" as a script consultant, and co-writing the feature film "Anna and the Apocalypse." With a background in education, Alan taught English and Drama at North Lanarkshire Council for over a decade, while also creating web series and short films. Alan holds a PGCE in Education with a focus on English and Drama, as well as an MA (hons) in English Literature from the University of Glasgow.
