Gravitational, a software company specializing in remote access and secure application deployments for developers, announced that Mark Herring has joined the company as its Chief Marketing Officer. He will report to CEO Ev Kontsevoy and work from Oakland, California.
In his role, Herring will head up Gravitational’s marketing team. He will also work on category creation, finding companies that need Gravitational’s software, and helping the company’s sales team exceed their quota.
Before Gravitational, Herring was CMO for InfluxDB, the leading open source time series database. Previously, he has held senior management positions at Hortonworks, Software AG, Sun Microsystems, Forte Software, and Oracle. Herring holds a B.S. Herring stated, “The role of marketing is often described as putting gasoline on a fire! Gravitational is a marketing leader's dream - great products that are selling, strong community support, and some amazing customer logos. The fire is there. My role is to focus and harness the collective energy of the company and amplify this to the larger market driving more interest, more users and more customers.”
Outside of work, Herring owns a chocolate lab who whines when it is time to walk forcing him to get up early for pre-breakfast walks. His dog also ensures that he does a fair amount of hiking on the weekends.
