Gunderson Dettmer
Chris Hoofnagle is a Professor of Law in Residence at the University of California, Berkeley - School of Law, and a Professor of Practice at the UC Berkeley School of Information, roles held since February 2016 and December 2015, respectively. As Faculty Director of the Berkeley Center for Law & Technology since July 2006, Chris leads initiatives at the intersection of law and technology. A member of the Advisory Boards for Palantir Technologies and Constella Intelligence, Chris provides expertise in privacy and civil liberties. Additionally, Chris serves as Of Counsel at Gunderson Dettmer, advising emerging technology companies on privacy and information security law. A visiting scholar at King's College London in early 2024, Chris will focus on national security and AI in defense processes. Previously, Chris was the President of the Digital Trust Foundation and an attorney at the Electronic Privacy Information Center. Chris holds a JD from the University of Georgia School of Law and a Bachelor's degree from The University of Georgia.
