Iain Cochran

Partner & Studio Lead at Hawkins Brown Architects

Iain is a partner at Hawkins\Brown with a particular remit for developing the practice’s residential portfolio in a changing market, ensuring standards of design and innovation are maintained. He also has considerable experience of infrastructure & creative reuse and is an advocate of designing a new building in relationship to its context.

Prior to joining Hawkins\Brown Iain worked in several different studios after studying Architecture at The University of Liverpool, Cracow Technical University and The Manchester School of Architecture.

He has developed significant expertise in the issues attending residential estate regeneration through delivering projects such as Park Hill, Agar Grove and Peabody Burridge Gardens. The proximity of the latter project to the mainline railway also harnessed his experience of building in and around infrastructure, specifically on Crossrail Tottenham Court Road and East Croydon bridge. He enjoys the challenges of sensitive reuse and has put this into practice at Lulworth Tower (Camden) and Park Hill.

A keen architectural sketcher who has trained his eye through the recording of historic buildings and townscape, Iain believes that most things can be explained and understood through the act of drawing.

He’s interested in political philosophy and enjoys reading Dystopian literature. With an aversion to staying still, he works off latent energy running or cycling.
