Setthivoine You have been working in the field of plasma physics since 1997. In that year, they began a Ph.D. research at CCFE (Culham Centre for Fusion Energy), where they also worked as a Scientific Programmer. After completing their Ph.D., they moved to Caltech in 2002 as a Postdoc, where they conducted research with applications to fusion energy, laboratory astrophysics, and advanced space propulsion. In 2007, they moved to the University of Tokyo as a Postdoc/Visiting Researcher, supported by a Foreign Postdoctoral Fellowship, Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) and the University of Tokyo. In 2009, they took on the role of Assistant Professor at the University of Washington, where they performed experimental and theoretical research in plasma physics as the Principal Investigator of the MOCHI experiment to study plasma flows interact with magnetic fields for applications to fusion energy, advanced space propulsion, and laboratory astrophysics. In 2017, they took on the role of Visiting Associate Professor at The University of Tokyo. In 2018, they became Co-Founder and Chief Scientist at HelicitySpace.
Setthivoine You completed a French Baccalaureat, International Option with a C (Mathematics and Physics) from Lycee International de St. Germain-en-Laye between 1987 and 1993. Setthivoine then went on to pursue a M. Sci and Ph. D. in Physics from Imperial College London between 1993 and 2002.
