Joseph Kunkel

Joseph Kunkel serves as Principal and Director at MASS Design Group since January 2019, focusing on architecture that promotes justice and human dignity. Additionally, Kunkel is a Civil Society Fellow at The Aspen Institute, a Board Member at Homewise Inc., and has held leadership positions at Sustainable Native Communities, emphasizing culturally and environmentally sustainable housing for American Indian communities until November 2023. With experience as a Fellow at the Obama Foundation, Visiting Eminent Scholar at Arizona State University, and Visiting Professor at The George Washington University, Kunkel has contributed to social change through various academic and community-oriented initiatives. Kunkel's educational background includes a Master's of Architecture from the University of Maryland and a degree in Architectural Engineering from the University of Hartford.
