Matthew Smith

Matthew Smith is a Senior Program Specialist at the International Development Research Centre, where responsibilities include the development and management of the Artificial Intelligence for Development in Africa project, a significant partnership co-funded with the Swedish International Development Agency. Matthew has received a Professional Development Award for contributions to 'open development' as an extension of ICT4D work, resulting in a notable working paper titled "open ICT4D." Previous roles include Post-graduate Associate at the London School of Economics, Research Associate at Carleton University, and Graduate Teaching Assistant at the London School of Economics. Matthew holds a PhD in Information Systems and an MSc in Development Studies from The London School of Economics, an MSc in Artificial Intelligence from The University of Edinburgh, and a BSc in Cognitive Science (Honors) from UC San Diego.
