Vasco Amaral

IFIP Vice-president

Vasco Amaral is an experienced academic and professional in the field of computer science and engineering, currently serving as an Associate Professor at the Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FCT NOVA) since 2005. Amaral holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Mannheim and a degree in Information Systems and Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico. As an active member of various professional organizations, Amaral serves as an IFIP Member of the Admissions Committee and National Representative while also holding key positions in the Ordem dos Engenheiros, including President of the College of Informatics Engineers and as a member of the Representatives Assembly. Additionally, Amaral has contributed to multiple research initiatives, including being a Senior Researcher and Founding Member at the NOVA Laboratory for Computer Science and Informatics and serving as Vice-Chair of the COST Association. Recent advisory roles include serving as Chief of Staff in substitution for the Secretary of State for Modernisation and Digitalisation in the Portuguese government.
