Laura Thompson

Laura Thompson currently serves as the Assistant Director General for External and Corporate Relations at the International Labour Organization and as Director of the Centre for Innovation in Global Politics and Economics at IE University. With extensive experience in international relations, Laura held the position of Deputy Director General at IOM - UN Migration from September 2009 to May 2021 and served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary for the Permanent Mission of Costa Rica to the United Nations in Geneva from May 2007 to August 2009. Additional roles include Legal Expert at the Basel Convention and Legal Officer for the United Nations Compensation Commission. Laura holds multiple advanced degrees, including a Diplôme d’Etudes Supérieures in International Relations from the Geneva Graduate Institute and an Executive Education Certificate from both INSEAD and Harvard Kennedy School.
