Apostolos Panagiotopoulos

Apostolos Panagiotopoulos is a seasoned financial sector expert currently serving as a Senior Financial Sector Expert at the International Monetary Fund since November 2020, focusing on the development of stress testing and systemic risk assessment tools with an emphasis on climate risk. Prior to this role, Apostolos contributed to the Bank of England from April 2013 to November 2020 as a Senior Associate in the Stress-testing Strategy Division, specializing in quantitative analysis for systemic risk and stress testing. Apostolos also held positions as an Associate within the Prudential Regulation Authority, where econometric tools were developed to aid micro-prudential supervisors, and as a Senior Financial Stability Expert at the European Central Bank. Earlier experience includes a role as an Associate at the Financial Services Authority within the Building Societies Division. Apostolos holds a PhD in Operations Research from the University of Nottingham, an MSc in Management Science from the University of Southampton, and a BSc in Business Administration from Athens University of Economics and Business.
