Abdifatah Ahmed

Abdifatah AHMED is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in durable solutions and protection for displaced communities. Currently serving as a Durable Solutions Officer/Deputy Programme Manager at IOM - UN Migration since June 2022, Abdifatah leads the planning and implementation of innovative solutions to internal displacement challenges in Somalia. Previously, Abdifatah worked as a Programme Officer for Durable Solutions at IOM from October 2019 to June 2021, focusing on enhancing conditions for internally displaced persons and returning refugees. A background in community-based protection is highlighted by a tenure as a Senior Protection Assistant at UNHCR from November 2017 to September 2019, where Abdifatah developed strategies based on community consultations. Other roles include Protection Coordinator at the Danish Refugee Council and Child Protection Field Coordinator at INTERSOS, emphasizing experience in programming related to child protection and human rights. Abdifatah holds a Master of Arts in International Relations and Diplomacy and a Bachelor of Development Studies from Mount Kenya University.
