Ian Chen

Ian Chen has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning multiple roles and industries. Ian is currently working at Intrinsic as a Software Engineering Manager since January 2023. Prior to this, they worked at Open Robotics from November 2012 to January 2023, where they started as a Software Engineer before being promoted to Software Engineering Supervisor in July 2018. Ian also worked at Nokia as a Software Engineer from March to August 2012.

Before their time at Nokia, Ian was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Auckland from April 2011 to March 2012. In this role, they focused on the development of an augmented reality system and a 3D object recognition algorithm for automating material handling operations. Ian also worked as a software developer at the University of Auckland and ETRI Korea HealthBots project.

Ian's work experience extends further back, as they were a Visiting Researcher at The National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology in October to December 2009. Ian also held multiple roles at the University of Auckland, including Research Assistant from July 2008 to October 2009, Teaching Assistant from March 2006 to November 2008, and Summer Research Intern from December 2006 to February 2007.

Beginning their career, Ian was a Software Developer Intern at Right Information Opener Ltd from December 2004 to February 2005.

Ian Chen began their education at The University of Auckland in 2003, where they pursued a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Software Engineering. Ian completed this program in 2007. Subsequently, they continued their education at the same institution and obtained a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, which they accomplished from 2007 to 2011.
