Jonathan Birchall

Jonathan Birchall is a seasoned executive in the pharmaceutical industry, currently serving as Chief Commercial Officer at Ionis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. since September 2023. Previously, Jonathan held the same CCO role at PhaseBio Pharmaceuticals, Inc. from November 2021 to August 2023. Jonathan's extensive tenure at Genentech from 2009 to 2021 included positions such as Vice President, US Head of Thrombolytics, where accountability for a $1.4 billion revenue-generating franchise and leadership of a 180+ member commercial team was demonstrated. Additional roles at Genentech included Lifecycle Leader for Kadcyla, where Jonathan successfully led its global launch, and as Marketing Director for Immunology, where brand strategies surpassed revenue targets. Earlier experience at sanofi-aventis UK encompassed Director roles with comprehensive oversight of marketing and business units across various therapeutic areas. Jonathan holds an MBA from The Open University, an MSc in Marketing from The University of Salford, and a BSc in Sport Administration and Science from Nottingham Trent University.
