Tonje Lie is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in trade policy and international economics, currently serving as a Senior Adviser at the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs since September 2025. Previously, Lie held the position of Senior Adviser International Affairs at NHO and spent nearly a decade at the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in various roles, including Deputy Director for Energy, Climate and Environment, and Acting Director for Energy, Food Security, and Climate. Notable contributions include leading the ministry's climate team, focusing on the European Green Deal, energy security, and carbon capture and storage (CCS). Early career experience includes roles as Deputy Head of Mission at the Norwegian Embassy in Brussels, Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN in Rome, and risk analysis positions at Norfund and DNB. Lie holds a Master’s degree from the Norwegian School of Economics and has studied at The London School of Economics and Political Science.
