George Ashton III

MD, Strategic Investments at Local Initiatives Support

George Ashton III is the current MD of Strategic Investments at Local Initiatives Support. George has also previously worked as the President & Co-Founder of Sol Systems and the Hope Investment Group. Some of their notable achievements include growing Sol Systems to more than 65 employees, managing large teams across 3 offices, and achieving revenues in excess of $100M. George has also raised initial seed from angels, and later sold minority stake to strategic investor.

George has also been responsible for overseeing trading, business development, new project sales, and financial structuring. George has worked with energy utilities to develop solar incentive hedges across 6 state markets and negotiated pricing and contract terms for bilateral agreements with investors purchasing solar assets and engineering / construction firms building those assets. In addition, they have developed tax equity syndication practice, working with tax advantaged lease structures to optimize investment for institutional clients – deployed $500M in tax equity over 4 years. George has also helped raise a $100M cash equity infrastructure fund from a large insurance company.

Some of George's notable capital origination deals include $12M from network investors and regional banks into SPVs to finance SRECs, $75M allocations from institutional energy companies to purchase solar assets, $15M strategic equity investment into Sol Systems by Sempra Energy, and $100M from Nationwide Insurance into a GP/LP solar asset infrastructure fund.

George Ashton III has a MBA from the University of Maryland - Robert H. Smith School of Business with a focus in finance and strategy. George also has a Bachelor of Science from William & Mary where they double majored in finance and economics.
