About Maze

Maze is a Series A funded startup building the future of product research for modern teams. We're backed by some of the world's best funds and have an extensive advisory network.

We're on a mission to empower modern teams to build better user experiences by testing and learning rapidly with real users. To do this, we've partnered with the world's biggest design tools, including Adobe XD, Figma, InVision, Sketch, and Marvel. We power over 40,000 brands globally, including IBM, Logitech, Pipedrive, Uber, Greenpeace, and Braze.

We're a fully remote team working across 35 countries. You'll be joining a passionate team whose resumes include Canva, Figma, GitLab, Google, InVision, Typeform and Zendesk.

The Role

Engineering managers at Maze are responsible for building impactful teams. In close partnership with product and design, you’ll guide your team to deliver on their mission, balancing pace, quality and customer value. Successful teams at Maze are supportive, healthy and sustainable environments, that are passionate about what they can achieve for our customers.

Managers at Maze focus on people, working practices and technical decision-making. We recognise and embrace different styles of leadership, and encourage managers to leverage their personal strengths. We expect managers to care deeply about the success, growth and health of people on our team, and proactively seek opportunities to improve how we work.

As an engineering manager at Maze, you will:

  • Lead a team of excellent product engineers, and guide their growth and wellbeing with feedback, support and empathy
  • Develop and ship an impactful roadmap for our customers, collaborating closely with product, design and leadership
  • Empower your engineering team to build software with care, quality, and craftsmanship
  • Build a flourishing and inclusive team culture and environment
  • Hire, coach and mentor engineers
  • Work closely with other engineering managers and engineers to contribute to engineering-wide initiatives

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has a track record of leading impactful and productive engineering teams
  • Has worked in a multi-disciplinary team and can confidently balance product goals with technical objectives, such as reliability and scalability
  • Is familiar and comfortable shipping at a fast cadence, underpinned by continuous delivery and robust observability
  • Focuses on outcomes over processes or preference, and continually seeks leverage and impact
  • Loves to level up their team and those around them; and strives to give meaningful coaching and feedback
  • Brings clarity and momentum when they encounter ambiguity, and is happy to tackle problems that lack a clear definition
  • Is intentional in building a team culture that is inclusive and welcoming
  • Is enthusiastic about Maze’s product, our mission, and remote work

Our stack

This role does not require hands-on coding. But we wanted to share a little bit about how we build, and what you can expect:

  • For planning and collaboration, we use Linear, Notion, Miro, Slack, GitHub and Loom.
  • We write full-stack TypeScript, using Node and React. We rely on neo4j, PostgreSQL and Snowflake for our data layer.
  • We primarily use AWS for infrastructure, managed via Terraform. Our services run on Kubernetes and Lambda, which we monitor with Datadog and Sentry.

Our team believes in running less software. We aim to build our product with a small set of highly effective tools that help our team focus on shipping impactful work to our customers.

Maze values transparency and it enables us to approach compensation equitably across the world. We are informed by data and regularly check our salary ranges (either United States or Rest of World) against other venture backed companies. Additionally, we are proud of our holistic and generous benefits offerings, included in every compensation package.

The typical compensation for this role ranges from $122,500.0 to $166,000.0.

Your salary is dependent upon many factors, including years of experience, expertise, etc. Don’t let the typical compensation range for this role deter you from applying; during your first interview, you can expect to have an open conversation with your recruiter regarding your compensation expectations. Thoughts to share about how Maze communicates compensation? We’re open to hearing your insights and feedback.

Consider this our wish-list. We know there will be great candidates that don't meet every one of these criteria—if you're passionate about the role and feel that your experience prepares you to do it, we'd love to hear from you.
