She has successfully managed credentialing for a hospitalist group and managed the medical staff department for a prominent community hospital in Chicago. As a credentialing expert, Laura is a contributor to thought leadership articles and healthcare journals including Becker’s ASC Review.

Benjamin Effrein is currently a Payroll Professional at [MEDHQ, LLC](/org/medhq-llc). Prior to this, they were a Payroll Tax Specialist at Toast from June 2021 to March 2022. Benjamin has also served as an Account Manager at ADP from May 2017 to June 2021. Effrein's experience also includes working as a Computer Lab Assistant at [Aurora University](/org/aurora-university) from August 2015 to May 2017. In this role, they provided support to students and faculty using software applications and hardware components. Effrein is skilled in responding to payroll discrepancies, managing projects, and providing customer service. Benjamin is also knowledgeable in state and federal regulations regarding taxes. Effrein is dedicated to resolving client questions and concerns in a timely and efficient manner.

Dave leads MedHQ’s outsourced accounting services. He directs monthly financial statement compilations, and provides financial analysis and controller solutions for MedHQ’s surgical facility and outpatient healthcare clients. Prior to joining MedHQ, Dave was controller of MLB Solutions, a $70 million HR outsourcing firm that managed payroll, workers’ compensation, employee benefits and human resources for approximately 130 client corporations. At MLB, Dave led the complete turnover in its business systems as he managed the fast-paced growth of the company. He started his career as a researcher for Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois. Prior to becoming a Certified Public Accountant, Dave earned a bachelor’s of science in biology/chemistry & math from [Northern Illinois University](/org/northern-illinois-university) and a master’s of science in physiology from Loyola University, Stritch School of Medicine.

Human Resource Leader with extensive experience in all aspects of human resource management in multi-site corporations, including strategy, talent management/ acquisition, employee relations, compensation, executive compensation, benefits and acquisitions. Leader in employee engagement with the ability to mediate tense situations, while mitigating risk. Experience in shepherding mergers and acquisitions as well as guiding companies through growth.

Currently serving on the American Heart Association Chicago Metro Board of Directors and on the American Heart Association National Compensation, Benefits and Human Resources Advisory Board.

Tom has served as CEO of MedHQ since its founding. He brings an enthusiasm for transforming the healthcare employment model through more effective people management. For over a decade, Tom has worked daily with ASC administrators nationwide to improve operations, reduce costs and reduce their employer risk. His own healthcare background includes work as an ASC administrator, which helps him understand and relate to the issues facing his clients. Prior to entering the healthcare field, Tom applied his engineering and operations oriented skill set to high-tech and highly regulated environments including Duke Engineering & Services (a subsidiary of [Duke Energy](/org/duke-energy)); a digital marketing agency; and an enterprise IT solutions company. Tom has a MBA from the [University of Notre Dame](/org/university-of-notre-dame) and a bachelor’s of science degree in electrical engineering from [Iowa State University](/org/iowa-state-university).

Another was a consulting engineer at Duke Engineering & Services, Inc. They both attended Iowa State University, where they studied electrical engineering.
