Matt Winter

Chief Architect at Merchants Capital

Mr. Winter is responsible for underwriting and monitoring Merchants Capital’s multifamily real estate portfolio, including projects structured with monetizable tax credits. Mr. Winter performs internal reviews and signs off on all construction due diligence including third-party construction reviews and monitoring reports from preconstruction underwriting through construction completion. Mr. Winter is a licensed architect in the State of Illinois and a member of both the AIA and NCARB. Prior to joining Merchants, Mr. Winter worked for GTG Consultants, P.C. for 8 years where he consulted primarily on affordable, multifamily housing for LIHTC investors and syndicators. Mr. Winter has consulted for multiple lenders and investors on both debt and equity executions for projects all over the U.S. and Puerto Rico, including for JPMorgan Chase, US Bank, Fifth Third, Raymond James, RBS, RBC, Wells Fargo, and Enterprise. Mr. Winter earned his bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness from Illinois State University and both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Architecture from the University of Cincinnati.
