Sherman Atkinson

Managing Director at Miramar Venture Partners

Sherman is a co-founder of Miramar Digital Ventures (MDV) and focuses on the Data, IoT and AI markets. He has spent a majority of his career using various processes, algorithms and systems to extract knowledge and insights from structured and unstructured data in the private & public markets.

Previous to Miramar, Sherman was with Austin Ventures, where he was a CEO-In-Residence in their Growth Equity Practice focused on acquiring and operating businesses in high-growth sectors of online advertising, marketing and digital media. While at Austin Ventures, Sherman also sourced Complex Media Inc., for Austin Ventures’ early stage Venture Capital arm which was acquired by Hearst Publishing and Verizon for $300 million.

​Prior to Austin Ventures, Sherman spent 17 years as an operator and an entrepreneur in the new media and e-commerce sectors. He served as the Chief Operating Officer of Intermix Media, Inc. (AMEX: MIX | Incubator of MySpace.com). As part of the turn-around team brought in by the Board of Directors, Sherman helped develop a number of new Internet media properties and also served as the President of Intermix Network, one of the largest Advertising Networks in the U.S. During his tenure as Chief Operating Officer, Intermix grew its public market capitalization from $126 million to over $670 million, when it was acquired by News Corporation (NYSE: NWS). Before joining Intermix, he served as the Chief Operating Officer of Buy.com, The Internet Superstore, and was President of its technology spinout, BuyServices, Inc. Sherman was part of the public to private transition team that took the company from $23 million to over $200 million in value prior to their acquisition by Rakuten.

Prior to his business career, Sherman served as an Intelligence Officer in the United States Marine Corps with tours at 1st Marine Regiment and 1st Marine Division. Sherman received his BA in Russian from Purdue University (NROTC Scholarship) and is a graduate of the United States Navy’s Nuclear Power Program.
