David Vernon

VP, Human Resources at Montclair State University

David Vernon is the Vice President for Human Resources at Montclair State University. David has over 20 years of experience in human resources and has worked in both the private and public sectors.

Vernon began their career as a consultant with Human Resources Consulting Projects. David then became the Managing Director for the New York office of Columbia Consulting Group, an executive search firm. In 2010, they took on the role of Associate Director of Human Resources at Mercy College. During their time at Mercy College, they were responsible for employee relations, benefits, compensation, and organizational development. David also oversaw recruiting and training.

In 2012, Vernon returned to consulting and worked on projects such as the implementation of an application tracking system and the outsourcing of benefits administration. David rejoined Montclair State University in 2014 as the Vice President for Human Resources. In this role, they are responsible for all aspects of human resources, including benefits, compensation, employee relations, and recruiting.

David Vernon has a Masters of Management from Northwestern University - Kellogg School of Management in Accounting and Finance and a BA from St. Olaf College in Political Science and Government.

They are on a team with Margaree Coleman-Carter - Dean of Students, Danianne Mizzy - Dean, Library Services, and Michael Galvin - Interim VP, Finance & Treasurer. David Vernon reports to Jonathan Koppell, President.
