Charles Gagnon

Chief Information Officer at The New York Genome Center

Charles Gagnon serves as Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the New York Genome Center (NYGC), leading all technology activities and overseeing four departments: Enterprise Computing, Research Computing, Software Engineering, and Data Innovation. He was appointed CIO in June of 2021. In this role, he is responsible for the security and connectivity needs of the Center, the Center’s public cloud environment, and the data centers hosting the compute and storage needs of the Center’s research and sequencing efforts. He oversees all IT services and software development initiatives.

Mr. Gagnon joined NYGC in 2017 as Senior Director of IT Infrastructure. He is an experienced technology and business leader, with over 20 years of experience maintaining heterogeneous infrastructures meeting the demands of modern computing. He specializes in finding the best technology solutions to solve complicated problems while respecting an intricate set of constraints. His work has often focused on computing platforms, network and data centers, cybersecurity, and disaster recovery.

Prior to the NYGC, Mr. Gagnon worked in similar roles, supporting the technology needs of quantitative and multi-strategy hedge funds. He obtained his Electrical Engineering degree from Université de Sherbrooke in Quebec, Canada, and is currently pursuing an MBA in Technology Management at SUNY Polytechnic Institute.
