Roland A. Caputo

EVP, CFO at The New York Times


Roland A. Caputo became executive vice president and chief financial officer on April 30, 2018.

Mr. Caputo, a 36-year veteran of the company, had been executive vice president of The Times’s Print Products and Services Group since March, 2013. In addition, he had been the company’s interim C.F.O. since March, 2018.

Previously, Mr. Caputo served as senior vice president and chief financial officer for The New York Times Media Group where he was responsible for the financial functions at The New York Times, and The International Herald Tribune. Prior to that, Mr. Caputo had served as vice president and chief financial officer for the newspaper from January 2006 until November 2008.

Mr. Caputo had been vice president of circulation fulfillment services since June 2001, where he was responsible for home delivery operations nationwide, as well as retail transportation and distribution outside of the New York metropolitan area. Before that, he was the vice president of circulation business development since September 2000.

Mr. Caputo was president of The New York Times’s City & Suburban Delivery Systems Inc. from January 1999 to September 2000 after having served as the group director and plant manager of The Times’s Edison plant since September 1996. In that role he was responsible for all aspects of the facility’s production and maintenance.

Before that, he served as assistant to the vice president of production since June 1993, responsible for assisting in the overall coordination of the production and distribution processes at The Times. He was director of labor relations from July 1992 until June 1993. From December 1990 until June 1992, he served as director of production planning and manager of production-financial analysis from May 1990 until November 1990. Mr. Caputo joined The Times in May 1986 as a financial analyst. Before joining The Times, Mr. Caputo was a financial analyst at Gimbles from July 1984 to May 1986.

Mr. Caputo received a B.A. in economics, magna cum laude, from the State University of New York (SUNY) and an M.B.A. in finance and applied economics from the University of Rochester.
