Mark Fenwick is a dedicated professional with a diverse background in marine ecology and community advocacy. Currently serving as a member of the Māori Standing Committee for the South Wairarapa District Council and a trustee for both Ngahuru Charitable Trust and Te Atiawa ki Te Upoko o te Ika a Maui Potiki Trust, Mark actively represents the interests of tāngata whenua and fisheries. As a Category Judge for the Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year Awards, Mark contributes to recognizing exceptional New Zealanders. Mark's longstanding role as a Marine and Freshwater Ecologist and Benthic Ecology Technician at NIWA since 2008 showcases expertise in marine environments, while previous leadership as Chair of the Environmental Reference Group for Wellington City Council demonstrates a commitment to enhancing environmental quality. Mark holds a Master’s Degree in Marine Biology from Victoria University of Wellington and a Diploma of Marine Studies from Bay of Plenty Polytechnic.
