John Flanagan

John Flanagan is the Senior Vice President of Government Affairs at Northwell Health. John has over 25 years of experience in the healthcare industry, specializing in clinical services, operational strategy, and regulatory compliance.

Flanagan began their career as a Director of Operations at New York-Presbyterian Hospital in 2006. In this role, they were responsible for the day-to-day operations of various departments including rehabilitation medicine therapies, respiratory therapy, clinical labs, endoscopy, dialysis, neurophysiology, psychiatry, pulmonary function testing lab, and employee fitness center. Flanagan managed a team of 500 FTEs serving over 130,000 patients annually and had a $90M budget across all service areas.

In 2012, Flanagan was promoted to Director of Clinical Services where they oversaw the development of space strategies and capital projects. John also led all regulatory compliance and organizational readiness strategies and activities for the hospital. Flanagan served as Incident Commander for weather emergencies, transit shutdowns, and unexpected infrastructure failures. John also project managed hospital-wide initiatives such as patient experience, LOS, financial efficiency, and quality.

Flanagan has been with Northwell Health since 2018 where they serve as the Senior Vice President of Government Affairs. In this role, they are responsible for leading the organization’s state and federal advocacy efforts on behalf of Northwell’s 21 hospitals and more than 60,000 employees.

John Flanagan has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Notre Dame in Pre-med and Anthropology. John also has a Master of Public Administration from NYU-Wagner School of Public Service in Health Management. John is certified from the American College of Healthcare Executives in FACHE.
