Melanie Welaratne

Melanie Welaratne is an experienced educational developer currently employed at Nottingham Trent University, where responsibilities include course design and addressing awarding gaps while specializing in decolonizing higher education. Melanie has also been a TEDx speaker, presenting on the transformative power of reflective drawing and writing, and has served as a trustee for Global Education Derby. Previously, Melanie held the position of Student Experience and Progression Coach at Derby College and contributed as a Chair for the Race, Faith and Belief group at a Derby-based startup. As Vice-President Education for the Union of Students, Melanie focused on decolonizing education and served in various leadership roles, including student trustee and TEDxUniversityofDerby lead organizer. With a Master's degree in Development Education and Global Learning from UCL and a Bachelor's degree in Fine Art from the University of Derby, Melanie's educational background complements a commitment to enhancing student experience and promoting equity in education.
