Stewart Wills has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Stewart started their career as a Copy Editor at Mattew Bender & Co. in 1981, where they gained experience in copy editing for legal books. Stewart then moved on to Smith Barney & Co., where they worked as an Associate Editor, writing articles and reports on the company's equity research department from 1983 to 1987. Following that, they worked as a Freelance Writer and Editor from 1987 to 1999, providing writing and editorial services to various corporate, financial, and publishing clients. In 2000, they joined Science Magazine/AAAS as the Editorial Director, Web, and New Media. In this role, they were responsible for planning, project management, usability, and user research, as well as coordinating and supervising a small team. Stewart also contributed to writing, editing, and page design. Finally, in 2013, they started working at Optica as the Senior Editor/Editor and Content Director for Optics & Photonics News.
Stewart Wills received a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in English from UCLA in 1981. Stewart then pursued a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Geology from Rutgers University, which they completed in 1993. Stewart furthered their education at Columbia University, where they obtained a Ph.D. in Geological Sciences in 2000. Stewart also briefly studied Geology at Indiana University Bloomington in 1993.
