Pet supplies manufacturer, distributor and e-retailer Outward Hound has announced the promotion of Michael Black to Chief Executive Officer. Black succeeds Outward Hound founder Kyle Hansen, who will transition to Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors.
"Since Michael's time as Senior Pet Buyer at Walmart, he has known and worked with our senior management team," said Hansen. "Michael has a deep understanding of the pet retail marketplace and brings a strategic, collaborative, process-driven approach that will help us better serve our customers in the coming years. As our new Chief Executive Officer, Michael's leadership will be critical to reaching new pet parents in an evolving marketplace."
Black originally joined Outward Hound in May of 2019 as Sanior Director of North American Sales. Since then, he has been instrumental in leading key growth initiatives as well as the company's successful focus on E-Commerce, which have resulted in impressive P&L figures.
Prior to joining Outward Hound, Black worked at Walmart for over five years, gaining essential knowledge of the pet category as a Senior Buyer of Pet Accessories. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Language and Literature from Brigham Young University in 2012.
Outside of the Outward Hound office, Black loves spending time with his family, playing basketball, traveling, writing, reading, watching good movies, and doing anything outdoors, whether it's hiking, canoeing, or fishing.
