Joao Paulo Souza

João Paulo Souza is a public health physician and global health researcher, recognized for their significant contributions to maternal and perinatal health, and for expanding their focus to a life course approach within global health. João Paulo has authored over 250 scientific publications and reached the position of full professor in Public Health at the University of São Paulo in 2015. Since 2022, they have served as the Director of the Latin American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences Information (BIREME) at the Pan American Health Organization, where they lead initiatives aimed at developing a pluriepistemic evidence base to enhance the role of Traditional Medicine in achieving Universal Health Coverage. João Paulo has held various leadership positions at the World Health Organization since 2008, contributing to global health initiatives grounded in evidence-based practices.
