John Powers

John Powers is currently an independent consultant. He previously served as President and CEO at Stanford Management Company (SMC) for nearly a decade, where he led the investment team for Stanford University’s multi-billion dollar endowment and funds, and also was a lecturer at Stanford University’s School of Business. Mr. Powers served on the Board of Directors for SMC as well as the Board of Directors for The San Francisco Ballet.

Subsequent to his role with Stanford, he served as Co-Head of Anteil Capital Partners within Credit Suisse Asset Management. Prior to SMC he was Managing Director and Director of Research at Offit Hall Capital Management LLC , now called Hall Capital Partners LLC. Mr. Powers has also served as an Advisor at Wealthfront, Inc.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Powers was Managing Director and Director of Research at Robertson Stephens & Co., having worked his way up after joining the company in 1992 as an Equity Analyst. Before that he held a variety of product development and marketing roles in the telecommunications equipment industry. He began his career in marketing research and opinion polling at Cambridge Survey Research and then Yankelovich, Skelly, and White.

Mr. Powers received his bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and an M.B.A. from Stanford University.
