Julius Genachowski

Julius is a Managing Director in the U.S. Buyout team for The Carlyle Group, and a long-time leader in technology, media and telecommunications. Julius served as Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission from 2009 to 2013 and, under his leadership, the FCC took major actions to extend broadband access, accelerate the rollout of advanced mobile networks, and free up spectrum for wireless communications. Prior to his appointment to the FCC, he worked for more than a decade in the private sector, helping build IAC/InterActiveCorp, which owned and operated multiple Internet and media businesses, including Expedia, Ticketmaster and USA Network. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Columbia College, a part of Columbia University, and a law degree from Harvard Law School, where he served on the Harvard Law Review.
