Chris Oxley

Senior Vice President, Government Affairs & Strategic Initiatives at Portland Trail Blazers

Chris Oxley’s expansive career in the sports and entertainment industry has spanned over two decades. In his 21st year at the Rose Quarter, Oxley holds the position of Senior Vice President of Government Affairs & Strategic Initiatives for the Portland Trail Blazers. His responsibilities include overseeing business development, government affairs, long-term venue strategy and organizational coordination around health and safety.

A key example of Oxley’s dedication to innovative business development was the creation of the PK80-Phil Knight Invitational basketball tournament, which was one of the most successful, non-franchise events in the history of the campus. Previously the organization’s SVP of Government Affairs & Projects and SVP of Venue Operations, Oxley managed a significant renovation of the Trail Blazers practice facility and oversaw a $16 million capital campaign that infused the Rose Quarter with critical new entertainment infrastructure to enhance the fan experience. His culinary vision led to the creation of many new food, beverage and catering offerings that are now considered an innovative model for professional sports venues.

An established leader in sustainable venue operations, he led the charge for Moda Center to be the first professional sports venue to achieve LEED Gold Certification for an existing building. Oxley is a graduate of Drake University with a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Business Administration. In addition to a diverse mix of professional duties, Oxley maintains a strong sense of civic responsibility and commitment to regional growth. He serves in board-executive leadership positions with the Portland Business Alliance and Sport Oregon.
