Surya Kallumadi

Surya Kallumadi is an accomplished leader in machine learning with extensive experience in various roles across notable organizations. Currently serving as Director and Head of Machine Learning at Coursera, Surya leads initiatives to build personalized discovery experiences for over 160 million learners. Additionally, Surya holds advisory positions at Stesso and Rainforest Connection, focusing on enhancing customer experiences and preserving rainforests through AI technologies, respectively. Previously, Surya directed the online applied science team at Lowe's, managing over 40 ML scientists and engineers, and has held key positions at organizations like The Home Depot, Myntra, and Flipkart. Surya has also contributed to academia as an adjunct faculty member at Emory University, teaching a graduate course on recommender systems. Surya earned a PhD in Computer Science from Kansas State University, specializing in machine learning and information retrieval.
