Joe Kaiser

Senior Staff MMIC Lead at Reach Labs

Joe Kaiser has a robust work experience spanning over several decades. Joe began their career at Raytheon in 1986, where they served as a Senior Engineer and Section Manager, leading the design and development of high-power, high-efficiency GaAs MMICs for military and commercial applications. In 1996, Joe joined Pacific Communication Sciences, Inc. as a Senior RF Design Engineer, responsible for designing transmitter chains for two-way pagers and personal basestations used in IS-136 TDMA cellular phones.

In 1997, Joe moved to Windata, Inc. as a Senior Hardware Design Engineer, where they redesigned a 38 GHz LMDS transceiver for high-speed wireless communications. Joe improved the TX, RX, and PLL circuits to meet performance requirements. The following year, they joined LTX Corporation as a Principal RF Engineer and developed RF instrumentation modules for the LTX Fusion system-on-a-chip semiconductor IC tester. These modules included amplifiers, switches, attenuators, equalizers, and down-converting mixers.

In 2004, Joe joined Teradyne, Inc. as a Principal Engineer in the Semiconductor Test Division. There, they designed a low-cost, low-power, multichannel RF receiver module for the next generation ATE system, significantly reducing cost per channel. Joe was also the original designer of a 12-Port 50MHz-6GHz expansion module with novel equalized dividers and an embedded noise source.

From 2015 to 2022, Joe worked at Starry, Inc. as a Principal Engineer in RF HW Design. Joe played a key role in designing mm-wave products, modules, and MMICs for Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP) infrastructure equipment. Their responsibilities included advising on RF architectural trade-offs, strategies for dynamic range optimization, calibration accuracy, digital pre-distortion, and manufacturability.

Most recently, Joe joined Reach in 2022 as the Senior Staff MMIC Lead. Here, they continue to contribute their expertise in MMIC design and leadership abilities.

Joe Kaiser attended the University of Maryland from 1976 to 1979, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. Joe then pursued further education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst from 1981 to 1983, earning a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on the Microwave Engineering Program.
