Menachem Fromer

A leading computer scientist, genomics researcher, and machine learning scientist who has applied innovative models to characterize the behaviors and genetics of psychiatric disorders.

Menachem Fromer brings both deep industry and academic research experience to his role as Head of Data Science at ROME. He is an Associate Professor of Genetics and Genomic Sciences and Psychiatry at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. He was previously a Data Science Lead at Verily Life Sciences (formerly Google Life Sciences), where he studied mental health using smartphones, as well as the spread of COVID-19. Prior to that, Menachem was a computational biologist in the Stanley Center for Psychiatric Research at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, where he researched novel disease-causing changes in the genomes of patients with schizophrenia and other neuropsychiatric diseases. He was awarded the Theodore Reich Young Investigator Award in 2016 by the International Society of Psychiatric Genetics. Menachem earned four degrees from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem – his B.S. in each of biology and computer science, his M.S. in computer science and genomics/bioinformatics, and his Ph.D. in computer science.
