Kurt Marek

Kurt Marek is the Executive Director of Grants Development at SALK INSTITUTE FOR BIOLOGICAL STUDIES. Kurt has over fifteen years of experience in the field of biomedical research.

Marek began their career as an Assistant Project Scientist at the University of California, San Diego, where they worked for six years. Kurt then became an AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow at the National Institutes of Health, where they worked for two years. Following that, they served as the Deputy Director of the Office of Translational Alliances and Coordination at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute for eight years. In their current role, Marek is responsible for developing and managing SALK’s grant programs.

Kurt Marek has a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of California, San Francisco. Kurt also has a BS in Biology from UC San Diego and a BA in Humanities from UC San Diego.

Kurt Marek reports to Rusty Gage, President. They are on a team with Carol Bodas - Manager, Library Services, Justin Giampaoli - Director, Security & Campus Events, and Melanie Showalter - Senior Director, Procurement.
