Jay Sweeney

An accountant by trade who has helped lead over $500 million in investor exits across the technology industry, Jay Sweeney brings three decades of senior finance and operations management experience to Sensei Ag.

Jay began his career as a Senior Consultant for Price Waterhouse Japan where he was recruited to the Tokyo office to provide multinational companies audit and tax consulting services in the Asia Pacific region. After seven years at Price Waterhouse, Jay joined BuyDirect, Inc., a global e-commerce provider of outsourced e-stores, as Accounting Manager supporting the company through its acquisition by Beyond.com for over $133 million. Post the acquisition, Jay assumed the role of Controller for Beyond.com managing the company’s worldwide accounting operations.

Venturing into the budding world of social networking, Jay became the Vice President of Finance for FriendFinder Networks, a premier network of more than 500 million registered users worldwide. An integral part of the management team, Jay helped drive net revenue by 33% annually, which resulted in the sale of the company to private equity for $500 million. Jay was retained by the new PE owner to be part of the management team that prepared FriendFinder for its initial public offering.

After spearheading two very successful investor buyouts, Jay went on to provide senior-level financial services support to several startups in the display advertising, digital marketplace and FinTech spaces. Jay first entered the agriculture industry as Controller for Produce Pay, Inc., a FinTech startup that provides growers and buyers of fresh produce innovative cash flow solutions. As the company’s first finance hire, Jay created an innovative automated treasury function to pay international growers. He was also an active participant in the company's Series A financing.

In his most recent role prior to Sensei Ag, Jay served as Corporate Controller and Head of Human Resources for Crop One Holdings, Inc., a vertical farming company that owns FreshBox Farms in Millis, MA and a joint venture with Emirates Flight Catering in Dubai. During his downtime, you can find Jay with his wife and son camping or on overlanding adventures. Jay earned his BS in Accounting from the University of Arkansas, Little Rock and is a Certified Public Accountant.
