Eva Hernandez

Managing Director at Sierra Club

Eva Hernandez-Simmons has worked for the Sierra Club since 2009 in various roles, most notably spending seven years with its Organizing team, supporting and managing staff across various regions of the country. More recently, Eva served as the Deputy National Program Director and on the Executive team, working to lead the Sierra Club’s Clean Energy for All work, to further collaboration on our climate work while emphasizing equity and justice to maximize our effectiveness as an organization and partner. Over the years, Eva has led and supported many successful community, state, and national campaigns by bringing to bear all the strategic elements of the Sierra Club. Across all of her roles, Eva has always worked to create a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive environmental and social justice movement. Since summer 2020, Eva served as a key part of the Sierra Club’s Interim Executive Steering Committee (IESC), a leadership body heading the organization’s transformation and working to allow for more effective power and information sharing as well as decision making. Before coming to the Sierra Club, Eva worked for national environmental and social change organizations, including MoveOn.org, Dogwood Alliance, and Green Corps. Eva graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in environmental policy. She believes in the power of people and communities and in the strength of the Sierra Club, as she strives to put our equity values into practice every day. To recharge, Eva reconnects with nature in the Texas Hill Country or at some swimming hole near Austin, where she’s based with her two little boys and her husband, Tyson.
