Richard S. Shames

Chief Medical Officer at Siolta Therapeutics

Dr. Shames has over 25 years of experience in academic clinical medicine and the biotechnology/ pharmaceutical industry. He brings strong scientific and medical expertise to Siolta’s focus areas of Pediatric Allergy and Clinical Immunology.

Previously he held leadership positions at Protagonist Therapeutics, Aldea Pharmaceuticals, Merck & Co., and Facet Biotech/ PDL Biopharma directing biologics, small molecule, and peptide therapeutic drug development programs across multiple disease indications. He has led development programs for FDA-approved products in chronic psoriasis, multiple sclerosis, and other autoimmune/ inflammatory diseases.

Dr. Shames previously held full-time faculty positions in Pediatric Allergy and Clinical Immunology at Stanford University Medical Center and the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. He completed post-doctoral training in Allergy and Clinical Immunology at U.C.S.F. and an internship and residency in Pediatrics at Montefiore Hospital-Albert Einstein School of Medicine in New York, earning Board Certification in Pediatrics and Allergy/ Clinical Immunology. Dr. Shames received his M.D. from the University of California, Davis School of Medicine, and B.S. in Biological Sciences from Stanford University.
