Melanie Buhrmaster is the Vice President of Development at Smile Train. Melanie has over 20 years of experience in fundraising and alumni relations, having most recently served as the Senior Director of Annual Giving and Alumni and Parent Engagement at Union College. In that role, they were responsible for developing high-level strategies to advance the overall fundraising and alumni and parent engagement efforts of the college. Melanie also led and managed a team of 13 exceptional colleagues with a focus on building interactive and meaningful activities that lead to enhanced interaction and increased giving opportunities.

Buhrmaster has a proven track record of success in fundraising and alumni relations. Melanie has successfully restructured programs to create a streamlined and strategic approach between alumni relations and fundraising activities. Melanie has also incorporated best-in-class platforms and digital marketing strategies that allow for increased interaction, participation and communication for cross-campus volunteer management. In addition, they have created an affinity-based model designed to align alumni experiences with giving opportunities.

In their current role as Vice President of Development at Smile Train, Buhrmaster is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the organization's fundraising efforts. Melanie is also responsible for managing a portfolio of 50 major gift and leadership annual gift prospects. Under their leadership, Smile Train has seen significant growth in its fundraising efforts, with a particular focus on increasing parent engagement and fundraising.

Melanie Buhrmaster has a Master of Science in Education from the University at Buffalo and a Bachelor of Arts in Public Communication from State University College at Buffalo.
